For a solid mandala design like the example shown, stitch one of the patterns here and fill in the empty spaces with satin stitches.

You can also try creating your own original mandala with the circle patterns. Transfer the mandala 5- and 6-spoke patterns to fabric, using a non­permanent fabric marker. Secure the fabric onto your hoop. Make sure the spokes and circles in the design are straight and even before you start stitching, or your mandala will end up asymmetrical. Begin embroidering at the center, using your choice of stitches. Repeat each stitch, adding one at each spoke, or the same spot in between spokes as you go around the circle. Build on the previous stitches with each round until your mandala is a big as you like.
